Safety while traveling ! 20090825073410
[quote="Red Tape"] . And in the summer, the air conditioning is set to "near arctic" /quote]
Right you are RT, I sometimes think hotels think their guests are penguins.
Because you mentioned hotel amenities (coffee etc), there is a question I 've be meaning to ask the hoteliers and B and B owner/operators on the board.
Hopefully a few will see this thread and respond.
In hotel rooms there is usually a coffee maker and packages of coffee and tea.
Question - Have you ever tried to make tea in a coffee maker?
Well I have, and I'm here to tell you that the tea tastes terrble and "surprise-surprise" a lot like coffee.
Ask for a kettle for tea and hotel room service goes into shock. And you can pretty much forget about a spoon, "madam you have a plastic stirrers for your tea"
I just don't think those folks at the Hyatt were tea drinkers.

Letters: Favor Enhancement 20090709193049
The Hyatt hotel chain’s “random acts of generosity” program represents a lottery, not a gesture of gratitude (Rob Walker, Consumed). A thoughtful guest who had received one of these favors would be unlikely to choose to book a room at a Hyatt, versus another hotel, just because they had won a hotel-spa massage the last time. Statistically, I would guess that the chances of the guest getting another favor are pretty small. That’s the nature of lotteries. It’s equally hard to imagine why that Hyatt customer would recommend the Hyatt to a friend. Odds are the friend wouldn’t win a favor; so imagine the potential for envy and resentment in that friendship. The Hyatt may pick up a few more guests because they like to gamble but not because they are grateful.<br clear="both" style="clear: both;"/>

Hotel bidding advice 20090525074437
Maria Joe sat down with VIRA, the president of Bid2Travel.com, which provides Bid2travel bidding advice.
VIRA: Why would anyone want to use Bid2travel?
ROSE: You'll save a lot of money.
VIRA: Yes, but who wants to get up in time for a 6:00 a.m. flight? You can't pick your departure times or airline or anything like that.
ROSE: Well, just use Bid2travel for air tickets when you're going to India or traveling at the last minute. You'll save hundreds of dollars. When you can plan your U.S. travel well in advance, Bid2travel may not be your best bet.
But always bid on Bid2travel hotels. That's easy and you don't have to get up at 4:00 a.m.
VIRA: Sure, but I don't want to stay in some crummy place.
ROSE: No, no, no. Bid for three or four-star hotels. You pick the quality.
You'll end up at a Hyatt, Hilton, Holiday Inn Crown Plaza, Sheraton, Marriott, or Doubletree-someplace like these.

I've been approached by Hyatt and am running a competition on my blog at http://www.aluxurytravelblog.com
In short, whoever posts the most approved comments this month (May 2009) will win a stay at any Hyatt hotel in the world they wish to choose. You can comment on any blog entry on there you wish. (Comments need to be of a sufficiently good quality, otherwise they won't be approved.)
There are 5 stays to give away and these will go to the five top commenters.
Good luck!
Paul.
